I'm back!

Wow I've really neglected this blog. Between working and looking after a toddler, there hasn't been much time for blog posts, but I'm going to do my best to try and post here again with news, events and my creations. Here is the latest gown I've finished. It's a cream silk dupion corseted fishtail gown with black lace, black tulle and a handmade silk rose. The fascinator is black feather and handmade silk roses with a black birdcage veil and wire curls.

I've also been working on a selection of fascinators and hair pieces. This one is ivory and silver lace with a diamante centre and is handbeaded with Swarovski crystals and glass beads. There's pictures of more on my Facebook page and details of which ones are still available to buy.

I'll be at the Burlesque Bazaar this Sunday at the Irish Club in Canberra selling my jewellery and fascinators. It's on from 11am -4pm. Hope to see you there.

Canberra Wedding Fair

Rockstars and Royalty will be at the Canberra Wedding Fair this Sunday, 15th May. We will be on stand 13 and will also be debuting 4 new gowns in the fashion parades.

10am - 4.30pm
Australian Institute of Sport, Bruce, Canberra.
Admission $15, Concessions $7, Accompanied children under 10 free.
Fashion parades at 11.30am and 2.30pm.

Black Wedding Dress

This is my latest bridal gown. It'll make it's debut on the catwalk at the Canberra Wedding Fair this Sunday.

The skirt is made of midnight blue satin with a ruched overlay of black silk organza. The corset is also midnight blue satin with a black silk organza pleated overlay. There is black Alencon lace hand appliqued on top of the organza and it was finished with hundreds of Swarovski crystals in black and dark blue. It features an asymmetrical shoulder strap covered in black silk roses. The whole things is topped off with a huge rose and feather fascinator and a black birdcage veil edged in Swarovski crystals.

New Gowns 2011

I've recently finished two new bridal gowns. Both will be appearing on the catwalk at the wedding fair on May 15th - more details about that coming soon.

The first gown is a blush pink silk corset with ivory Alencon lace appliques, Swarovski crystals and a silk bow at the waist. It is worn with a big ivory tulle skirt. The top layer of tulle has pickups and each of those is decorated with crystals. It is shown with an ivory bircage veil and ivory organza rose and feather fascinator.

The second gown has a cream silk satin corset decorated with pink flowers and Swarovski crystals. It had a ruffled organza shoulder strap. The skirt is layers of silk satin and organza. It is shown with a pink flower and ivory feather fascinator and birdcage veil.

Diamante flower combs

Here are the first of some new bridal hair comb designs I've been working on. Both feature a silver diamante flower as the centre piece, surrounded by more diamantes and faceted clear glass beads. I have lots more of the flowers and they'll be featuring on necklaces and bracelets too. These combs are available to order now and can also be made with different coloured beads. Just contact me for more details.

New Fascinators with Handmade Organza Roses

I've recently been experimenting with making my own roses after being frustrated with the selection available to buy. The first 2 that I've finishes are both made from organza and I've made them into fascinators. I'm really pleased with how they've turned out. I'm still experimenting with different fabrics, sizes and styles, so expect more soon.

Handmade Market is on again this Saturday and Rockstars and Royalty will be there for the first time since last November. We'll be debuting our new roses and charms jewellery range along side our popular Swarovski crystal jewellery, our acrylic tattoo jewellery and our fabulous feather fascinators and bridal accessories.

Tash was married at the Gold Creek Chapel in May. Her Rockstars and Royalty gown was made of blush pink and ruby red silk satin, decorated with ivory and gold Alencon lace. The look was completed with an ivory and Swarovski crystal birdcage veil, a lace and crystal choker and an ivory rose and feather fascinator. Rocked Up Bride - Erin

Rockstars and Royalty added black Alencon beaded lace to this plain ivory dress and made a black satin bolero jacket to go with it to transform it into a show-stopping, dramatic gown. I love how Erin finished off the look with the stripy stockings! It's so great when a bride's style and personality really shines through on their wedding day. Rocked Up Bride - Megan

Megan was married in Canberra in February and came to Rockstars and Royalty to add some sparkle to her vintage-style gown. I added clear Swarovski beads and crystals to the front of the dress, the straps, the hip and the top of the train. I also made her a Swarovski crystal studded birdcage veil and an ivory rose and feather fascinator with blue Swarovski crystals. This was her 'something blue' and matched the colour theme of the wedding. Her look was finished with a pair of Swarovski pearl and crystal chandelier earrings. To compliment her, the bridesmaids all had the same style of chandelier earrings with blue Swarovski crystals and matching crystal flower hair pins.

Rockstars and Royalty Update

Wondering why things have been quiet at Rockstars and Royalty recently? Here's why - my beautiful daughter, Lily, was born at the end of March and I've been spending all my time with her. She's 10 weeks old today and now she's settling into a bit of a routine, I'm finding some time to get creative again. I'm currently taking orders for jewellery and accessories for this year, and for gowns and rocked-up frock for weddings from January 2011 onwards.

Rockstars and Royalty Bride - Rhonda

Rhonda was married in Canberra in April. Her Rockstars and Royalty gown was made from sage green silk and ivory tulle and was decorated with dark purple and antique pink embroidered flowers and Swarovski crystals. The shape of the flowers was inspired by the flowers on Rhonda's Mum's wedding dress. I also made her beaded flower hair comb and birdcage veil, decorated her shoes with Swarovski crystals, and made hair combs for her bridesmaids and buttonhole for the men in the bridal party. Lace Hair Comb and Choker on Etsy

I've added 2 new designs to my Etsy store today.

The first is an ivory lace and feather hair comb, heavily beaded with silver seed beads and Swarovski crystals

The second is an ivory lace choker with Swarovski pearls and crystals.

I have some more hair combs and necklace designs underway using this ivory lace and I also have the same lace in black that I can't wait to get creative with. I'll post more as they're done. If you're interested in a custom piece using this lace, let me know and I'll get designing for you.

Back in September I had my portrait taken by Ash Scott as part of a series of portraits he was working on for his graduation show. He set everything up in the Rockstars and Royalty studio and had me sat on my red velvet chair surrounded by my gowns. I'm completely blown away by the result.

Beck wore a Rockstars and Royalty rose and feather fascinator and birdcage veil for her 50s inspired wedding. The fascinator featured an ivory rose and pale pink and pale green feather, to match her dress and colour scheme. The birdcage veil was made of ivory spot russian veiling. I love how her vintage inspired hair and gown look with the veil and fascinator. And I'm completely in love with the wedding car!

Rocked Up Gown - Jaimee

Jaimee's ivory gown was completely plain when she bought it, but she wanted some sparkle added to it. I rocked it up by adding clear Swarovski beads and flat back crystals and silver seed beads encrusted along the neckline. The clear flat back crystals continued down the side of the bodice and faded and scattered across the front and the back. The effect really changed the look of the gown, glamming it up completely.

Rockstars and Royalty Bride - Andi.

Andi was married in glittering Las Vegas in June wearing a purple and ivory Rockstars and Royalty gown. The ivory pleated silk corset was decorated with purple cherry blossoms to match her tattoo and black and purple beads and swarovski crystals. It was worn with a full purple silk skirt and a long ivory ruched organza overskirt.

Rockstars and Royalty at the Melbourne Cup

I've been feeling all happy and summery recently so I decided to go with bright colours for my outfit for Melbourne Cup this year. When you're shopping for maternity clothes there's not much choice for race outfits out there. I found this fabulous red dress on Ebay. I already had the red rose necklace, red bag and shoes to go with it. For my facinators, I decided to match the colours and flowers on my tattoos and added lots of butterflies to complete my floral garden theme.

I wore 2 fascinators. There was a large one on the left with feathers wrapping around to the back and a smaller one on the right above my side ponytail.

I completed the whole look with a small corsage and a matching buttonhole for my husband.

I love the look of the 2 fascinators together and I'm definitely going to design some more pieces like this. I got lots of compliments on my corsage and my husband's buttonhole too, so I'll be making more of both of those in the future too. I think the corsages would be perfect for flower girls and I love the idea of a groom having a buttonhole that matches the bride's hair piece. They'd make lovely keepsakes after the wedding too.

Rebecca was married on Monday on the shores of Lake Burley Griffin in Canberra.

Her gown consisted of an ivory corset with red lace overlay, decorated with a red Swarovski crystal heart, and a huge ivory tulle skirt. I also make her red and ivory rose and feather fascinator, her ivory birdcage veil, her Swarovski crystal earrings, and earrings and bracelets for her bridesmaids. I recently did a photoshoot with photographer Steven Lloyd. He had the concept of having the models 'flying' and had arranged a studio complete with a hoist and harness to get them airbourne. Rockstars and Royalty will be launching their new acrylic jewellery range, 'Ruby loves Rocky', this Saturday at Handmade Market. The necklaces are made of lightweight acrylic, which is hand cut and hand painted. The designs are inspired by my love of vintage tattoos and all things cute and Japanese.

There will be a limited number of pieces available this Saturday, with prices ranging from $25 to $60. If I get a good response, I'll be expanding the range with new designs in the future. I'd love to hear what you think, so comment and let me know.

The day of the Handmade Market also saw the wedding of Rockstars and Royalty bride Carly. Her fishtail gown was dark ivory silk satin with a chocolate brown train and chocolate lace. The corseted gown had a fabulous feathery bustle and was hand beaded with swarovski crystals and pearls. I also made her 20s inspired lace and feather hair combs, hair combs and bracelets for her 3 bridesmaids and decorated her ivory parasol with the lace. Preparation for 2 more photoshoots.

This weekend I have 2 more photoshoots, both with Capturing Essence.

The first is a theatrical/ opera style shoot on the stage of the Hawker College theatre, using their piano and my red velver chair as a prop. I'm making a mask as an accessory. I've made the frame so far and I'm really pleased with the shape. It'll have beads and feathers too when I'm done.

The second shoot is on Sunday. It'll be shot in Capturing Essence's studio using my red velvet chair again. These are going to be fairly simple fashion shots ready for this year's round of magazine ads. The theme is going to be Marie Antoinette meets old Hollywood glam.

I can't wait to share the finished results with you.

I spent last Sunday in Sydney for a photoshoot. Our first location was Curzon Hall in Ryde. We chose the red lace corset and white tulle skirt to fit with the fairytale location and took my red velvet chair as a prop. We had very limited time at the location as we had to be gone before 2 weddings were due to start there, but we still managed to get a huge variety of shots done.

We then moved on to an indoor location to shoot in a bath. We used the red sequin corset and pink and red organza skirt for this one and added in pink and red roses and some strawberries. We used a variety of my fascinators and jewellery here too.

Busy busy busy

It's been a busy time in the Rockstars and Royalty studio since the wedding show. I've had lots of fittings to get gowns, corsets and jewellery ready for, but they're all for weddings so I can't share anything with you! All in good time :)

I'm off to Sydney this weekend for a photoshoot on Sunday with the stunning Mishella. I'll put the pics on here as soon as I have them.

Wedding Show

The wedding show was fantastic! We had such a good day and so much interest in our gowns and jewellery. The catwalk gowns went down so well that I couldn't get near the stand after I came back from dressing the shows as there were so many people wanting to talk to us! I look forward to meeting you all again at the studio in when you come for your appointments. Here's some pictures of the Rockstars and Royalty stand and me and my new pink hair :)

Red lace show gown and 2 new fascinators

Another gown is finished ready for the catwalk on Sunday. The corset featured in a photoshoot a couple of weeks ago even though it wasn't quite finished! It now has beading on the front and has a big fluffy white tulle skirt and a red rose and feather fascinator to go with it. The ivory rose and feather facinator at the bottom is to go with the gown in the previous post. Better get back to my beading. More pics to come as things are finished. It's going to be a long night!

Finished - New Show Gown

This is the first new gown ready for the catwalk at the wedding show this Sunday (24th) at Epic, Canberra. The catwalk shows are at 11.30 and 2.30 so if you're coming along make sure you catch one of them.

New Photoshoot

Last Saturday I did a new photoshoot with Jules of Capturing Essence. Our model was Julz Price and make-up was by Tracey Mc Mahon. I haven't had much time to go through the pictures, but there's some great ones in there. Here's one of my favourites, showing off my new red lace corset which is all ready to make its debut on the catwalk at the wedding show next Sunday (24th) at Epic in Canberra.

Today I've been gluing swarovski crystals onto the new show gown that will be my finale piece at the wedding show on the 24th. The corset is almost done. It should look so amazing under all the lights on the catwalk. Here's a sneak peek of it...

Since my studio was finished earlier this year I've been decorating and adding to it to create the look I want. So far, it's been slow going (due to finances and actually finding what I'm looking for!) and I've been a bit frustrated as it's not got the character I'd like it to have. Yesterday, I went out to buy some coat hangers and ended up finding some perfect additions....
First up was an amazing red velvet chair. It was the last one in the shop and had been really reduced. It was meant to be! It fits in with the look of the studio perfectly and I'm sure it'll be used in future photoshoots as well.
Then I found a beautiful mirror to go above the jewellery display. This was reduced too.

My final find was 2 red shot silk cushions. I'd been wanting to add more red into the decor since I got the red chandelier and these are perfect.

Once I got everything back to the studio I was feeling inspired and finally put up (with a little help from my lovely husband) all the photoframes I'd bought a while ago. It's really starting to get the look and feel I was always after now. Just a few more little finds like these and it'll be looking like I've always imagined it would. In my excitement I completely forgot to buy my coat hangers, so looks like I'll have to go shopping again. Hopefully I'll stumble across some more gorgeous things!

It's a busy time at the Rockstars and Royalty studio at the minute. The wedding show is fast aproaching and I still have new gowns, corsets and jewellery to make for my stand and the catwalk show. My 'finale' gown for the catwalk is looking amazing. What started out as a fairly simple design has turned into a swarovski crystal encrusted show-stopper!

I'm also getting ready for a photoshoot this Saturday. My photographer once again is the fabulous Jules from Capturing Essence. We'll be setting up in my studio and working with new model Julz and new make-up artist Tracey. Saturday will be a 'test shoot' to see if we all work well together and if we do, we'll be planning something big. Jules and I have some big ideas for shoots at the minute which involve building 'sets' to shoot the models on, but more of that soon.

Today and tomorrow I have a couple of fittings to get everything ready for. One first calico for an underwear corset, and the next fitting for my gorgeous Vegas bride. I had a first fitting for a new bride last night which went really well. She's super-excited about her dress, even at this early stage. I love my clients :)

Last night I also met with Jenny from Allyeska, an up and coming Canberra photographer. She has some amazing ideas for shoots and I hope to be collaberating with her in the near future. Her inspiration comes from 40s and 50s pin-ups, so that combined with my corsets should make for some fun pics.

Welcome to the new blog for Rockstars and Royalty - my couture bridal gown and corset company in Canberra, Australia. After 10 years designing and making gowns and corsets in the UK under the name Devotion, I have now brought my unique style to Australia. I specialise in Victorian corsetry and corseted gowns which are all individually designed, cut, sewn, fitted and hand-finished by me in my studio in Richardson, Canberra. My gown designs range from fairytale, fit for a princess, to outrageous, bright coloured gowns to bring out the rockstar in you. I also hand-make tiaras, jewellery, veils and accessories. I'll be sharing with you pictures of my creations, ideas, photoshoots and anything else I find interesting on the way, although it goes without saying that I won't be giving away anything about my clients' wedding designs until after the wedding!
